Iscar now offers a family of high-performance slitting tools that merge the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the added durability of the completely new Sumo Tec insert grades.
The concept, already proven successful in Tang-Grip parting tools, has now been extended to slitting cutters. In the patented Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets accompanied by a special hand tool, and are clutched firmly in place without the need without requiring clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and impede chip flow. The pocket design uses cutting forces to keep the insert seated firmly in position, eliminating any prospect of insert pull-out. The Tang-Grip clamping system also fosters more accurate slitting cuts plus longer pocket and insert lifespan.
Iscar's Sumo Tec insert grades feature a special post-coating treatment which considerably improves tool life and dependability.
Introduced in late 2007, the brand new Sumo Tec treatment smooths the insert's coated surface to dispose of microscopic stress raisers, reduce heat and friction and improve chip flow. The result is improved toughness and resistance to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to greater tool life. The golden-colored side on Sumo Tec inserts facilitates wear detection. All Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are attainable in J- or C-type chipformer geometries from Iscar.
